When was the last time you could honestly say you got a testimonial from one of your clients?  Last week, last month, last year even?

It puzzles me as to why so many businesses, not just salons, either forget or don’t see the significance in getting a customer to share their positive experiences after using your services.  After all, if they’ve had a great time in your salon, then why not get them to shout about it to everyone else.  And the perfect time to get a testimonial from a client is immediately after they’ve had their stress relieving massage or when they see their awesome new hair-do!  Many of our Inner Circle Members use their ‘Happy Forms’ in the Essential Salon Owner’s Marketing Toolkit® for just this purpose.

At the end of the day testimonials are the BEST way to establish an element of trust with your potential customers so that they want to use your business, product or service.  Let’s face it, you can say how great you are at what you do until you’re blue in the face, but when it comes to the crunch potential clients want to know other people’s opinions of you.

Take a look at this website for example.  It’s flooded with real testimonials from real salon owners who have used or are using our program, because no matter how great we say we are at helping salons with their marketing, salon owners want to see the proof – in fact I often encourage people looking at joining our program to call these people and talk to them in person.

I recall a few years back when we launched Hair & Beauty memberships in our own salon for the first time.  We initially sent out the campaign to our existing clients selling about $8000 of the packages. Not a bad result, but still we wanted better.  So when we re-released our memberships a few months later we put in glowing testimonials from all those who had already purchased a membership, along with a photo of these clients, their name and occupation.  What happened?  Well we sold $28,000 worth of the Gold, Sliver & Bronze memberships in just a week (Mainly Gold to be honest).  Was it worth using these testimonials?  I think so.

So make it a priority to get as many testimonials as you can from clients this year.  Imagine if you got one testimonial every single week from a client – that’s not too much to ask.  In a year’s time you would have 52 testimonials that you could use in your various marketing activities.  And plaster them everywhere you possibly can!   In your mailbox flyers, newspaper ads, on your website (video testimonials also work wonders here too!), in-salon posters and so on.
